Encontrar (to find/discover)
My husband organized a tree planting and park clean up event in Nuevo Laredo. Consulate employees and members of their youth council volunteered on a Saturday morning to help out the city. In Nuevo Laredo, our consulate community is small - made up of about 35 Americans and their families, and approximately 150 local staff. For us at this post, the consulate community is essentially our entire community. They are the people we work with and hang out with. Our kids go to the same schools. I routinely run into someone I know at the grocery store or on my morning run. Consulate activities like this tree planting provide opportunities to explore new parts of the city and connect with other members of the consulate community with similar interests. These connections help build roots in a lifestyle of change.

Festejar (to celebrate)
'"Cause you're hot then you're cold. You're yes then you're no. You're in then you're out. You're up then you're down..." Was Katy Perry singing about a sad romantic relationship or toddlers entering preschool? Emotional rollercoaster aside, this month we celebrated my daughter starting preschool!
She's at a local bilingual school, where most of the day is taught in Spanish - a language she doesn't speak. Even though most of her peer-to-peer communication is non-verbal, I know it is a stressful experience. Each day, whether she wakes up excited or distraught, I am so proud of our big girl and admire her resilience.
