Realities of being an American diplomat

Updated: May 29, 2023

The TODAY show recently did a segment looking into some of the training that is required for U.S. diplomats and their families. How to survive a terrorist attack, defensive driving, and investigating an IED attack are among some of the skills learned during this course. Though I am grateful for the preparation, it is a harsh reality check of life and safety abroad.

"Over the years, 300 U.S. foreign service members and other personnel have died in terror attacks while serving overseas. Now they’re being trained to survive such attacks, and the training is tough. NBC chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell reports for TODAY."
