Encontrar (to find/discover)
Monterrey is the perfect easy weekend getaway for the family - just a 2.5 hour drive from Nuevo Laredo. The city is at the foothills of the Sierra Madre Oriental mountains meaning there are gorgeous views in every direction. Unfortunately, we were unable to get the full experience as many of the city’s attractions were closed due to COVID. However, it’s an easy city to return to and with many more flight options it will be a stop for future trips to other cities around Mexico.
Our long weekend wasn’t a bust. We walked around, hung out outside, and enjoyed the view at our AirBnB. Monterrey is the capital and largest city of the northeastern state of Nuevo León, Mexico. It is one of the most livable cities in Mexico, rich in history and culture.
Our itinerary:
Thursday: Afternoon arrival. Playground at the Parque Mississippi.
Casual dinner at Taquería Orinoco.
Friday: MARCO museum followed by lunch in the Barrio Antiguo.
Lucy’s Zoom birthday party followed by dinner at El Rey del Cabrito.
Saturday: Hike La Huasteca. Afternoon pool. Dinner at Kadan.
Sunday: Morning visit to the Macroplaza.
Festejar (to celebrate)
We celebrated our daughter’s 3rd birthday in Monterrey and virtually over Zoom. She was so excited that her grandparents, aunts, and uncles “attended” her birthday party. It’s amazing to see how seamlessly technology fits into her life and how connected she stays with our family because of Zoom. I’m grateful for this as staying close with our family and friends will be a key component to our happiness in this lifestyle.
Mirar (to look at/watch)
